When it was hard for women to join theological training for purposes of serving as ordained ministers in the church in the Synods of Livingstonia, Blantyre and Zambia, Mercy Chilapula of Blantyre synod, served in the position of synod moderator, which is the highest but not the most powerful position in the Church.
