Obadiah Basaajakitalo came to Orthodoxy through his study of church history and a desire to find a Christian expression free from the influence of colonial power structures. Alongside Reuben Sseya Mukasa, he was one of two Ugandan Anglicans who worked with Daniel William Alexander in establishing the African Orthodox Church in Uganda and Kenya. In 1930/31, Alexander ordained both Basaajakitalo and Mukasa to lead the African Orthodox Church of Uganda. Basaajakitalo later crossed into Kenya to evangelize among the local communities. He traveled extensively across Western Kenya, particularly near the Ugandan border, where he catechized and baptized the first Orthodox Christians among the Nandi and Luhya peoples. These early baptisms marked the planting of Orthodoxy in the region.
